The Philadelphia Cheesesteak Experience – Only in Philadelphia, PA
A field trip to Philadelphia would be incomplete if you didn’t take the time to go and have a genuine “Philly Cheesesteak” at one of the famous places that serve these culinary delights. Much more than some meat on a bun, a Philly Cheesesteak is a gastronomic tour-de-force. Ok ok, really… its just a helluva good sandwich!
The story goes like this… The Philly Cheese Steak was originally created in Philadelphia in 1935. There are many sub shops that try to duplicate this, but you just can’t get this anywhere else! A “good” cheesesteak is a combination of grilled steak, a freshly-baked hoagie roll (the bun), and the right extra’s on top.
On top would be “Whiz”… melted and hot cheese wiz, grilled onions, mushrooms, and more. Some go for the plain steak as they might be purists, while others prefer a “Pizza Steak” complete with marinara sauce and melted provolone cheese.
There are a number of places in Philadelphia that would boast the “best” but really this is about your preference and where you are in the city.
